It’s almost that time of year again: Valentine’s Day. For many, it’s a time of great enjoyment. But for others, it’s a time of sheer panic, especially for those with tight purse strings! However, what people don’t realise is that magical moments can be created without needing to break the bank. So, if you want to keep the romance alive while keeping your Valentine’s day on a budget, why not try one of our suggestions?

Recreate Your First Date

Now this one will depend on where you decided to take your significant other for the first time. If you decided to go to a coffee shop then you’re in luck. But, if you tried to pull out all the stops and went to a 5-star restaurant… well, then this isn’t the option for you or your wallet!

Rent Their Favourite Movie

A great way to spend Valentine’s Day is curled up watching a good movie. Especially if it is one of your partner’s favourites! The trick here is to find something you both like (or one you can at least tolerate without making sarky remarks) so the night doesn’t end in disaster. Obviously Blockbuster is long gone but if you’ve got an Amazon Prime account, you can find even the most obscure films available to rent or buy (or free!). If you haven’t got an account, Amazon Prime currently offer a free 30-day free trial. If you do decide this is the way to go you are sure to set the night up for success while keeping Valentine’s day on a budget. Don’t forget the wine and nibbles!

Dessert Date Night

Why not skip the meal and just go straight to the good part? Some restaurants are solely designed to offer tasty desserts. Creams Cafe have dessert parlours all over the UK offering all manner of cakes, pastries, sundaes and crepes. And if you’re trying to save money, it’s always much cheaper to buy one course than a 3-course meal.

Wine Tasting (at home)

Most people like a glass of wine now and again. And again! Instead of heading out to a pricey bar why not drink great wines in the comfort of your own home? There are many retailers offering wine hampers and tasting sets. Virgin Wines do a great red and white wine box featuring 5 of their best wines. Presented in a stylish box and including tasting notes and a branded glass, if your partner is a wine lover this is for them!

Once the night has finished, you may even have some new choices to add to your collection for the next wine night!

Make Your Own Pizza

Making a pizza is a fun experience, no matter if you’re a beginner or an expert. All you need is the base ingredients for the dough and some toppings and you’re good to go. The process of making it is perfect for both of you to get involved, experiment with flavours and have a great time. And at the end you’ll have a selection of delicious or absolutely inedible pizzas. Whatever the case, it’s a perfect recipe for doing Valentine’s Day on a budget.

Board Game Night

The right board game always makes for a fun night. And what could be better than showing your Valentine how much you love them by completely destroying them at Trivial Pursuit? All you need is a couple of great games, some drinks and snacks and you’ve got yourself a low cost date night. Avoid Monopoly if you want to stay together of course!

One for the culture vultures out there. If you’re set on going out for Valentine’s day then going out to an art gallery combines multiple advantages. For example, you’ll be able to dive into the various cultures on display, save money with the majority of them being free, and enjoy a peaceful and educational environment.

Dance The Night Away

Why not try getting out of your comfort zone and going for some quality living room dancing? You can even make it more memorable by creating a special playlist of the favourite songs you’ve both enjoyed over the years. Crank the romance dial to eleven with some serenading via a home karaoke device.

Keep in mind that if you’re self-conscious of your dancing and singing, the privacy of your own home will prevent any embarrassment. So what are you waiting for?

Final Thoughts

Even with Valentine’s day on a budget, you can still have memorable and romantic time. It’s amazing what you can do with a little effort and advance planning. Whatever you choose to do, it’s often about taking care of the small details. These are the things that will create happy and romantic memories for years to come. Happy Valentine’s Day!
