How To Use Canva In Your Business

Did you know that 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual? They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but for businesses – it’s even more important than that. Visual messaging is what consumers respond to the best – and in today’s digital world, the imagery you use in your small business marketing is crucial to your success. That’s especially the case for your social media marketing work, so vital to today’s digital marketing. With statistics showing your social media content will grab 94% more views with visuals, it’s not something you can afford to ignore. But if you’re not a graphic designer, and don’t have the budget to hire one, then where do you start? Well, help is at hand, in the form of Canva. Here’s how to use Canva in your business.
What is Canva?
Canva is a visual communication platform with a range of graphic design tools. It has made the process of designing marketing materials so much easier for companies and individuals. Canva has a vast array of tools and templates that can be used for all manner of digital or printable designs. The applications are almost endless – you can create web banners, smartphone screens, t-shirts, business cards, planners, infographics, posters, online courses and even presentations! Since Canva launched in 2013 over 7 billion designs have been created – and for social media content, its powers are simply awesome. With just a few clicks, you create fabulous, professional looking social media content. Here’s how I’ve used it with our social posts.
Templates
One of the biggest features that stands out for Canva are its templates. There are so many to choose from. The brilliant drag-and-drop functionality makes it easy to find and use just what you are looking for. And after you’ve chosen the one you want you can personalise it to suit your business. You can easily change the colours, images and typography, while keeping the layout you selected. Alternatively, you can go for a custom project – start with a blank canvas and let your imagination do the work! Whether you’re a social media newbie or already have some experience, you’ll find what you need on Canva. All skill levels are catered for.
Photo Editing
Canva has an excellent photo editor that goes way further than your standard cropper! You can layer your photos to create an eye-catching, impactful collage. Adding text over the top of your photos is also an option. If you decide to upgrade to Canva Pro you can remove backgrounds from your photos and change the contrast, brightness and saturation of the image.

Stock Images
One of my favourite features of Canva that really helps me to create social posts for Muve are the huge range of free stock images, icons and fonts. Everything you need is right at your fingertips. You can upload your own images (another excellent feature) but having the stock images at hand helps massively when you are focusing on layering your posts.
Free v Canva Pro
Whatever stage you’re at in your journey, use Canva in your business and you’ll have all the tools you need to grab those all-important eyeballs. You’ll keep your audience coming back again and again as well! Sounds good but you’re worried about price? Well, don’t be, because Canva is free! And not just for a trial period either. You can create, download and access your material without any sort of limit on time.
However, if you want to really get the best from the platform, then upgrading to Canva Pro is recommended. Canva Pro gives you access to a whole world of extra possibilities to make your social posts the best they can be. You’ll find further extensions to the free pack. Such as a wider variety of great images and superb animations available for use. If you want to involve your team or collaborate with people outside your company, then you’ll love Canva Pro. It allows you to have up to 5 people on the account, so multiple people can work on your designs. You can edit together in real time which is an excellent way to collaborate with your team. There’s also 100GB of Cloud Storage so you’re never going to run out of space!
If you’re using Canva to create social media posts, Canva Pro comes with an excellent tool that lets you plan your content over a month grid calendar. This is helpful if you have multiple posts going out a week and want to keep on top of everything, so you know when and where it’s going. From just over a tenner a month the possibilities are endless, and they also offer a free trial.

Final Thoughts
In these times, content is indeed king. If you’re looking to create and publish truly engaging social media content that will grab and keep hold of your audience, you should take a look at Canva. Even if you have no design skills, by using Canva in your business you can generate powerful images, tailored to your business. And it offers so much more than social media content too!
